What are ovarian cysts? A cyst is a little balloon filled with air or fluid on one of the ovaries, which then exerts pressure on the right or left side of the lower abdomen. These cysts can be painful. Besides the pain in the lower abdomen, some other symptoms are: erratic, painful periods, often with much uterine bleeding as a result of elevated estrogen levels, painful intercourse, heel pain, and excessive hair growth.

When the ovarian cyst bursts the pain is relieved, though in some cases the cyst may reappear.

The incidence of ovarian cysts is on the rise, particularly among women between 14 and 55. Let’s look at some of the main factors that contribute to the development of cysts, and then the main things we can do to prevent them.

Causes of ovarian cysts:

Increased use of birth control pills, especially depo provera.
Increased consumption of hormone-infused foods such as most
commercial meat and milk, to which growth hormone has been added.
Stressful, frantic lifestyle.
Imbalanced, not natural diet.
Obesity.
A toxic, overburdened liver.

How can we diminish the likelihood of ovarian cysts?

Consume healthy, that is, organic meats and milks. Eat lots of fresh vegetables and drink abundant water.
Use a natural progesterone hormone cream.
Increase your liver metabolism and detoxify. Your allies here are the natural tinctures of olive leaf, dandelion, milk thistle seed, and artichoke.
Check your thyroid.
Stop smoking.
Loose weight.

When all is said and done though, it really comes down to a healthy lifestyle. This means to be true to yourself, not wishing yourself to be different. The hard part, oddly enough, may not be acts of “heroism”. Rather, it can be dropping parts of ourselves which are not worth holding on to, but we cling to from sheer habit. Your health is in your hands. So take excellent care of yourself – you are WORTH it!

Warmly Pieternel van Giersbergen.

All women experience body changes during their pregnancy. Some women have a few symptoms and other women have more. Everyone is different. You will find 10 symptoms that are normal, and you may have one or none of these symptoms.

Fatigue – most common symptom, and you may feel more tired than you have ever felt before. This is normal especially during your first trimester. Your body is working overtime to produce hormones and supplying blood and nutrients to your baby. One of the hormones is progesterone, and it is a central nervous system depressant, so this hormone will make you feel overly tired.

Bleeding – it is not unusual to have small amount of spotting or bleeding early in your pregnancy. It is normally more pink in color and does not last very long.

Talk to your doctor and let him know about this, but don’t be concerned unless the bleeding is heavy and lasts a long time. You may also get a bit of cramping early in pregnancy.

Changes in Appetite – The smell of some foods may cause nausea during early pregnancy, or you may find you have a craving for certain foods during late pregnancy.

Foods that may wreak havoc on your stomach would be: Meat, cheese or milk, and spicy foods. Don’t be surprised if these preferences and aversions change as your pregnancy progresses.

Morning Sickness, Nausea and Vomiting – Typically confined to early pregnancy, though some women experience this symptom for up to six months.

Morning sickness is not always confined to the morning, and it results from the changing levels of estrogen in the body.

Increased Urination – As your uterus enlarges, you are likely to feel the urge to go to the bathroom more often. This is normal during the first and third trimester.

Breast Tenderness and Changes – Increased production of the estrogen and progesterone is required to prepare the breasts for nursing. This tenderness does pass.

Constipation and Bloating – Constipation is common during early pregnancy because of an increase in progesterone that slows digestion. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated and help ease constipation and bloating.

Mood Fluctuation – Again, it is all due to the hormonal changes in your body. You may be an even-tempered person and suddenly find yourself crying or losing your temper for no reason.

Understand that these mood swings are common during the first trimester and will usually improve.

Be sure to drink plenty of water and keep crackers and other healthy snacks on hand to address low blood sugar and don’t be surprised if you need to rest and pamper yourself a bit more, especially during early pregnancy.

If you have already gone through the stage of visiting your doctor and coming away feeling less than hopeful, you may be considering trying home treatments for fibroids. In actual fact, the very nature of this condition means that conventional ways of treating fibroids leave a lot to be desired, as they focus on dealing with the symptoms of fibroids rather than the underlying causes, meaning that in most cases, fibroids will regrow-and this is even after surgery!

The causes of ovarian cysts are numerous. Every month during a typical menstrual cycle, the ovaries produce follicles which resemble cysts in structure. The follicles produce the estrogen and progesterone hormones that may be necessary during pregnancy. Common causes of ovarian cysts occurs when a follicle keeps growing beyond its normal time period and becomes an cyst.
Follicular cysts are the most common type of cysts that develop. They are usually harmless and there are few if any symptoms. They will normally disappear just as they appeared on their own. Normal causes of ovarian cysts affecting the follicles take place when the pituitary gland releases hormones to trigger the release of an egg which in fact does not occur. Rather, the follicle continues to grow and develop into a cyst.
Some normal causes of ovarian cyst can be attributed to when the luteinizing hormone surges and an egg is released. Upon the release of the egg, the ruptured follicle produces estrogen and progesterone in order to prepare for possible conception. At this point, the follicle is now called the corpus luteum. What happens next is that the egg seals off and fluid accumulates inside the follicle causing the corpus luteum to expand and become a cyst.
A corpus luteum cyst will typically disappear on its own without any treatment, although it could grow to 4 inches in diameter during just a period of a few weeks. It could also bleed internally or twist an ovary. If the corpus luteum cyst ruptures this can cause internal bleeding in addition to sudden sharp or severe pain.
The drug clomiphene citrate is a fertility drug that works to induce ovulation, and might in itself, be among the causes of ovarian cysts. Clomiphene citrate is in fact known to increase the risk of developing a corpus luteum cyst (which does not prevent or threaten pregnancy), and therefore probably causes other cysts as well.
Some cysts, such as hemorrhagic or endometrioid cysts develop like other cysts but are classified as such because they contain blood. This blood can result from injury or from the leakage of blood vessels into the egg sac. Causes of ovarian cysts forming in the endometrial tissue include bleeding and sloughing off of endometrial tissue that transplants itself in the ovaries. Blood eventually builds up, rupturing and causing pelvic pain.
As the secretion of hormones that are a natural function of the body can often be the cause of ovarian cysts, it is impossible to completely prevent the ovarian cysts from developing. With this said, you can minimize the chances of problems developing by getting more exercise, decreasing stress, eating healthy food options, and making an effort to improve your general health.

Many doctors will simply recommend doing nothing at all, as fibroids will shrink during the menopause. Now I always think that this advice is fine, if you are fast approaching the menopause or if your symptoms are mild. However, if like many women you are simply experiencing intolerable symptoms which are affecting your everyday life, this is simply no good and this can advice can feel like a life-sentence.

If you are prepared to try home treatments for fibroids, you may not have to put up with the common symptoms of fibroids, which include painful periods, bladder and bowel problems, bloating, swelling, anemia and infertility. However, you need to be clear on the fact that it is believed fibroids are caused by a combination of lifestyle, hereditary factors and diet and these factors need to be taken into effect.

To get you started, there are a number of simple home treatments for fibroids which are known to be effective:-

* Eating anti-inflammatory foods such as oats, cumin, pineapple and rosemary can help as it is believed that fibroids are common in woman who are prone to inflammatory conditions

* Reducing estrogen can help, as most women with fibroids are shown to have higher than average levels of this hormone. This can be done by reducing body fat and by reducing your intake of estrogen mimicking compounds which are derived from pesticides and additives

* Chinese medicine is thought to use herbs which can help to cleanse the reproductive system

* Gentle massage can help as it improves the circulation around the reproductive organs which can, in turn, help to remove unwanted toxins which are thought to contribute to fibroids

The most valuable piece of advice I can give if you are considering trying home treatments for fibroids is that you will need to invest a little time and effort in your own treatment. Half-hearted attempts will simply not be particularly effective and the best way to approach it is to realize that you will have to give this priority and the rewards can be truly enormous. To do this, you will need to follow a comprehensive system which has been tried and tested and proven to work.

The lack of “real” help for women led an alternative practitioner to develop a complete system for treating fibroids which mirrored what she taught women in her busy clinic.

Her unique, 7 Step Plan has been successfully used by many thousands of women worldwide and for those who are willing to take charge of their own treatment and recognize that they will have to play an active role in their own healing, then this is simply ideal. If, however, you are the type of person who will simply expect to take a pill and be cured, then this is maybe not the right system for you and you may wish to consider temporary symptomatic treatments.

Through the years women have suffered through the changes that occur in their body every month. Menstrual cramps are considered a necessary evil, and yet there are proven ways to reduce and even avoid them. Mood swings too are a common occurrence that can be controlled relatively easily.

So what causes cramps and mood swings? Each month during menstruation, hormones are released that increase the contraction of the uterin muscle. When the uterus contracts too strongly, it decreases the flow of blood and oxygen to the muscle and causes cramps. These cramps can range from mild to severe. Most women suffer needlessly or figure out their own way to deal with the pain.

Mood swings, on the other hand, are caused by the changing levels of estrogen and progesterone that decreased the naturally occurring serotonin in the brain. When serotonin levels drop, mood can drop with it.

Here are some tips to help with both these issues:

1. Avoid salt, caffeine and alcohol in the days before your period. These substances all increase the symptoms of cramps and PMS.

2. Avoid eating too much sugar. Many women say they crave sugar – chocolate in particular – during their periods. Sugar, which can elevate mood for a short time, eventually causes a crash. Since you’re dealing with naturally produced mood swings during this cycle anyway, adding sugar to your diet is not a good idea. Avoid the sugar temptation.

3. Get regular exercise all month long. Each week try to fit in four 30 minute sessions of aerobic activity. During your period, if you’re dealing with cramping, take a leisurely walk. The low impact activity will help get your blood flowing and take your mind off your pain while actually helping to increase the flow of oxygen and blood to your uterus.

4. Get plenty of sleep. Sleep helps your body regulate itself. It keeps your moods in check and can give your body the rest it needs to fight on the pain of cramping.

5. Take a Calcium supplement. Calcium is important to women every day of the month, but during your period calcium helps to reduce symptoms of water retention, cramps and even back pain. Some physicians also recommend taking Vitamin B-6 during this time.

6. When pain occurs, use a heating pad or hot water bottle to temporarily reduce it. Mild exercise can also relieve pain from cramps, but don’t over due it. Rigorous exercise can actually increase the blood flow and increase the cramping.

7. Eat six smaller meals throughout the day instead of three large ones. This will keep your blood sugar up and your mood elevated. Foods rich in Vitamin C like citrus, green peppers, and even brussel sprouts can reduce the symptoms of PMS.

8. To reduce bloating, eat potassium rich food such as bananas, cranberries and other fresh fruit.

9. Drink plenty of water to wash salt and electrolytes out of your body and to aid in reducing bloating.

10. Avoid stress by cutting back on the expectations you place on yourself or by taking a natural supplement like St. John’s Wort. Also try flax seed capsules to provide the essential fatty acids that keep your mood elevated.

Finally, don’t let your period get you down. Staying busy and socializing will help you keep your mind off your menstrual symptoms. Physically, your body reacts well to the company of friends and loved ones, increasing the level of oxytocin in the blood stream to help you feel better and keep you in a better mood.

Conventional treatment for fibroids usually consists of surgery or drug treatment. In milder cases, doctors will sometimes recommend “watchful waiting” which means that a woman simply has to put up with unpleasant symptoms indefinitely. Alternative cures for fibroids are certainly worthy of consideration as even surgery and drug treatment are not permanent solutions as they do not eliminate the root cause, meaning that fibroids can regrow even after surgery.

The best alternative cures for fibroids concentrate on trying to eliminate the root causes rather than just offering symptomatic relief as this is the best long term option. There are many different causes of fibroids and it is believed that they form due to the subtle interaction of a number of primary and secondary causes which are rarely the same in two women. Some common causes include:-

* Dietary issues
* Lifestyle factors
* Lack of exercise
* Build up of toxicity in the liver
* Estrogen levels

One very good method of treating fibroids naturally is to focus on your diet. Out of all the things you can do, altering your diet is likely to have the most significant effect. Most of us know the principles of a healthy diet, and eating for fibroids is not too much different. You should ensure that you do not overload your body with too many calories, even if the calories are healthy ones. Try to stick to organic foods only and if not, ensure that all fruits and vegetables are well-washed or peeled. With regard to meats, eat only small portions of lean meats and again, these should be organic to avoid eating foods which have been treated with growth hormones. Your fluid intake is very important as dehydrated internal organs are more prone to disease so you should aim to drink at least 2 liters of filtered water daily. Avoid hydrogenated and saturated fats and ensure that fats do not make up more than around 20% of your calorific intake.

Out of the other alternative cures for fibroids, reducing estrogen levels is likely to help as many practitioners believe that estrogen is “fuel” for fibroids. One good way to do this is via a liver detox as this hormone can become “locked” in the liver. Another good way is to ensure that your Body Mass Index is within the acceptable range as fat cells are both a production and storage site for estrogen.

Written by a nutritionalist, health writer and former fibroids sufferer herself, the system I recommend is groundbreaking, and I am confident that you will finally feel that you have found something that will work for you.

Uterine fibroid tumors affect millions of women in the U.S. alone. Conventional treatments for fibroids leave much to be desired when considering the drawbacks.

Drug therapy is aimed at changing the ratio of hormones or the level of hormones to slow the growth of fibroids. Drugs such as Lupron effectively stop the production of hormones; others introduce androgens that mimic testosterone. Of course the side effects are highly undesirable. These include mood swings, hot flashes, lack of libido, increased body and facial hair and even the lowering of the voice.

The various surgeries such as myomectomy, embolization, myoma coagulation and hysterectomy also have drawbacks, the most obvious being the total removal of the uterus. The less radical surgical approaches will create scar tissue and may interfere with a future pregnancy. Additionally, surgery does not address the underlying cause of uterine fibroids to begin with, and many women experience a recurrence.

So what are the alternatives? You may be surprised to learn that you have choices in treating fibroid tumors. Here are the Five Steps to Becoming Fibroid Free Forever:

1. AVOID HORMONE CONTRACEPTIVES AND HORMONE REPLACEMENT DRUGS. The driving force behind the growth of fibrosis such as fibroid tumors is excessive estrogen. It you are on oral contraception or any type of hormone contraception (i.e, DeproProvera, etc.), discontinue it and use alternative forms of contraception.

If you are currently on estrogen replacement, tell your doctor that you want to discontinue it. (After your fibroids have gone away, you can explore bio-identical hormone replacement with a qualified practitioner.) There is a great deal of misinformation about the use of estrogen in medicine.

2. AVOID FOODS AND OTHER SOURCES OF ESTROGEN. Certain foods are extremely high in estrogen and can introduce more estrogen in your body as hormone contraceptives! In a 2006 study, “The Phytoestrogen Content of Foods Consumed in Canada,” the foods with the highest estrogen content are: flax seeds, soy beans and tofu. There are a huge amount of estrogens in Flax seeds. Avoid flax oil! Avoid soy products!

Other sources of estrogens are xenoestrogens (also spelled zenoestrogens) which are substances that mimic the natural hormone. They are found in pesticides, herbicides, some chemical solvents, petroleum and exhaust fumes. Then, there are the plastics, everything from PVC pipes to food wraps. Avoid heating food on or covered by plastics. Avoid hot beverages in plastic. Keep plastic water bottles cool to reduce the risk of plastics leaching into the contents.

3. USE A PURE PROGESTERONE CREAM. Natural progesterone cream is safe, side effect free and easy to use. It’s available without prescription. Supplementing with progesterone helps balance the hormones. Progesterone keeps the production of estrogen in check and in so doing keeps the bad effects of estrogen from flourishing. Using natural Progesterone cream elevates mood and fights depression fast. Make sure the cream is free from soy or other herbal ingredients that may be estrogenic.

4. TAKE MYOMIN. Myomin is an all natural formula of Chinese herbs that has been shown to help metabolize unhealthy estrogens and promote proper hormonal balance. Studies show that it also inhibits aromatase, an enzyme that converts androgens (testosterone) into estrogen. Hospital research has shown that Myomin helps to reduce the size and symptoms of myomas (fibroids) found in the breast, uterus, and ovaries.

3. TAKE SYSTEMIC ENZYMES TO DISSOLVE FIBROIDS. While the first four steps in becoming fibroid free have focused on balancing the hormones, enzymes are the secret weapon that will accelerate your treatment results dramatically. In Europe and Asia systemic enzymes have been used successfully to dissolve fibroids for decades. Since fibroids are composed of fibrin, enzymes that digest fibrin will effectively eat the fibroid tumors. It is not a question of if the tumors will be dissolved, but only a question of when.

While many have heard of digestive enzyme supplements that are taken to help digest meals, systemic enzymes are different. These formulas are taken between meals so the protein and fibrin eating enzymes enter the bloodstream and begin their work throughout the body.

While individual results will vary, most women will report significant shrinkage of fibroids in 6 to 8 weeks, with improvement in their symptoms in the first 2 to 4 weeks –and often even immediately due to the pain relieving anti-inflammatory properties of these formulas. Most women experience a disappearance of the tumors within three to five months.

Enzymes are safe to take with other supplements and prescription medications except anti-coagulants such as Plavix, Coumadin, Warfarin and Heparin. This is because systemic enzymes naturally thin the blood as it cleanses it of excess fibrin, pathogens and other protein-based waste, and together with enzymes, the anticoagulant would thin the blood too much. Enzymes are non-toxic and safe at any dose.

While not all enzyme formulas are effective, the few that are potent enough to bring results are costly: ranging from $90 to $180 a month. Most are professional formulas that require a dose anywhere from 9 to 30 capsules a day. However a new professional strength formula has been released that costs $45 a month and requires a dose of only three caplets a day, which brings the cost down to $1.50 a day.

And to get more information, find the right products and begin a program now, visit Shrink Fibroids Fast.com.

Cysts are very small bags looking like blisters and filled with fluid. Women who are of the reproductive age commonly have cysts. They look like growths that are the size of almonds on each side of the uterus. This said, the imbalance of progesterone and estrogen, two of the female hormones, can also give rise to abnormal cysts such as dermoid cysts, endometrinoma cysts and cystadenoma cysts. In many cases these are not harmful and clear up by themselves. There are many signs concerning ovarian cysts, which allow for early detection if you know how to recognize them.

For many women, ovarian cysts do not result in any specific symptoms. Inactive tumors will probably not cause any symptoms. This is certainly the case when the cyst is very small. Sometimes the tumors that generate particular hormones can lead to specific symptoms. Bleeding even after menopause may start for women with a feminizing tumor. Girls with ovarian cysts who are still too young for puberty may start bleeding early and grow breasts and body hair. In some cases cysts will grow and bring on abdominal bloating as they become bigger. A woman in this case will go to the toilet often because of the additional pressure on the bladder and the bowels. In this case such a crucial indication of ovarian cysts must not be neglected. Other indications include pain during intercourse. A further frequent sign of ovarian cysts is when periods are heavy or irregular.

If a woman has an active masculine tumor, then periods may stop and she may begin to develop masculine features such as deepening of the voice, increased size of the clitoris and facial hair. It is possible for a woman to live with a cyst for many years without knowing it. However if the cyst has grown on a stem and the stem becomes twisted, this may also produce serious pain, an increase in the rate of heartbeat and vomiting. The name for this critical condition is torsion and it requires immediate action. If a cyst ruptures, the effects on a patient will depend on what the cyst contained, as well as any degree of bleeding or infection. A cyst that ruptures typically causes some pain but not necessarily as much as with torsion. If you experience an abnormal swelling of your abdomen then be sure to consult a doctor or a clinic. Because of the absence of symptoms in the cases of many ovarian cysts, they are often only discovered during ultrasound scans or routine checkups being performed for other reasons.

So as to achieve long-term relief from ovarian cysts and their symptoms, the only real solution is a holistic treatment. Conventional medicine does not give effective treatment for ovarian cysts because it only focuses on relieving pain for symptoms. Several drug exists that may be prescribed for ovarian cyst treatment, but they do not bring a permanent solution. Many of them also have unfortunate second effects.

No unique sign of ovarian cysts exists for diagnosing ovarian cysts reliably. In certain instances, there is no symptom whatsoever. In other cases the symptoms manifest themselves as ectopic pregnancy, pelvic inflammatory diseases and endometriosis. Other ailments seemingly unrelated such as appendicitis and diverticulitis have also proved to generate symptoms and indications looking like those of an ovarian cyst. However, it is imperative to keep a lookout for any of the above. The classic sign of torsion in an ovarian cyst is intense abdominal pain accompanied by fever and nausea. Another common sign of ovarian cysts is menstrual cramps that are also known under the name of period pains, or by their medical appellation of dysmenorrhea. Up to a certain level, period pain may be usual, but some patients accept a high level of pain considering it to be normal. Bad menstrual cramps may suggest other impairments including those of ovarian cysts.

An indication of ovarian cysts is a continuing dull pulsing pain spreading from the lower back out to the thighs, as is a piecing pain in the pelvis just before the period starts or just before it ends. Other signs also linked to ovarian cysts are vomiting and fever and the sensation of a heavy or full abdomen. These signs may be numerous in some cases and completely absent in others. In the early stages, victims of ovarian cysts indicate a feeble pain or a feeling of fullness. The existence of ovarian cysts may also be signalled by pain when having intercourse. Piercing pains when pressure is applied to the bowels or during bowel movements are also to be treated with suspicion. In addition, signs often taken to be signs of pregnancy such as tenderness of the breasts, nausea and vomiting, can in fact indicate ovarian cysts. The best plan is to obtain counsel from a certified gynaecologist if you notice any of the above symptoms.

In order to remedy and prevent future ovarian cysts, a smarter choice is a holistic treatment that allows for the cure and elimination of ovarian cysts permanently. Even if several options of treating or managing ovarian cysts are available, some of these only target the diminution of the painful symptoms rather than resolving the underlying disease. A holistic solution is also the quickest and safest way to rid yourself of ovarian cyst infection today and for the future.

Depression from PMS often brings women to situations where they do not have complete control over their lives. This emotional distress carried by the condition may be sufficient to trigger thoughts of suicide to the sufferer. There are cases that the symptoms become more severe, not only affecting the everyday life of the sufferer, but also the lives of the people around her. Despite the detrimental effects of this condition, there are treatments that can be done through medications together with changes in your lifestyle.

Almost three quarters of women who are about to start the transition to menopause notice some kinds of symptoms. Menopause symptoms are a result of changing hormonal levels. This is in preparation for the shutdown of the female reproduction system. As hormone production decreases, most women will start to have symptoms even if their periods haven’t stopped.
Somewhere between their late 30s and early 40s, many women will start to notice the first signs of menopause. This is the time when a woman’s body cuts down on the production of progesterone and estrogen. Perimenopause is the name give to this phase of menopause.
Ovulation becomes sporadic because the ovaries stop releasing eggs. It’s harder for a woman to become pregnant at this time because she becomes less fertile. As well, pregnancy during this time has more risk associated with it.
One of the early symptoms of menopause is an irregular period. The flow will be either considerably lighter or heavier than it has been historically.
Mood swings are also a sign of menopause. You might need to take antidepressant medication to relieve the problem.
As well, women often experience hot flashes. This is like a wave of heat that passes through her body at unexpected times, often while sleeping. Her face will become red and she will break out in a sweat.
Excess abdominal fat and sleeping disorders are also signs of menopause. Exhaustion and depression are often the result of a sleeping disorder, so get the advice of a doctor to manage the problem.
The symptoms become more noticeable throughout the 40s. Some time soon after turning 50, the transition is over. Once a woman has made it through a full year without having a period, she has officially reached menopause. Fifty-one is the typical age when this happens.
Most women will experience symptoms through the entire process of menopause. Unfortunately, some women may suffer with them for the rest of their lives.
Every woman experiences menopause differently. Some will hardly notice that it’s happening. Other women will experience symptoms that interfere with their daily lives.
Visit your doctor if you think you’ve started menopause. They will be able to give you advice on managing your menopausal symptoms. Some of the methods of managing the symptoms include lifestyle changes, pain relievers and hormone therapy.
